The Blue Continent: Islands in the Pacific at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen has been named Winner of the 2026 German Design Award in the Excellent Architecture – Fair & Exhibition category. We’re thrilled to celebrate this recognition of innovative exhibition design, and proud to have supported the project as Cost Consultant.

The German Design Award continues to evolve with the global design industry, and the 2026 programme introduced new and emerging categories such as Circular Design, AI in Architecture and Metaverse Space Design, alongside Service Design, reflecting the growing impact of technology, sustainability and future-focused thinking. Against this forward-looking backdrop, The Blue Continent’s achievement highlights the project’s relevance and ambition within contemporary museum design.

The Blue Continent completely reimagines the museum’s South Pacific gallery, placing Indigenous perspectives and lived experiences at the forefront.

Visitors explore themes including migration, identity and climate change through immersive environments, from a central Island installation with living plants to hands-on interactives such as surfing and volcanic displays, offering engaging new ways to connect with Pacific culture.

The project was led by Casson Mann with design direction from John Pickford (Director) and creative concept by Donacio Cejas Acosta (Lead Designer). Greenway Associates worked closely with the team at Casson Mann throughout the design and delivery process, carefully managing costs and procurement for a highly bespoke exhibition. We’re proud to see the creativity and collaboration behind the project recognised at this level.

Congratulations to the entire project team and to the Übersee-Museum on this well-deserved achievement.
