Atmosphere

SCIENCE MUSEUM
COMPLETED 2010 - LONDON

Greenway Associates are proud to have worked on two of the main permanent exhibitions at the Science Museum, both of which opened in 2010. “Who Am I?” invites visitors to explore the science of who you are through intriguing objects, provocative artworks and hands-on exhibits. “Atmosphere” is a virtual world, with its own oceans, land and atmosphere that invites visitors to make sense of the climate—the science of how it works, what it’s doing now and what it might do next.

OUR ROLE

Greenway Associates provided cost planning, procurement and post-contract cost control advice for both permanent exhibitions.

ATMOSPHERE

Atmosphere is a five-year project in the Wellcome Wing at the Science Museum in London. Atmosphere is a gallery about climate science and the energy challenge. It aims to change the way visitors think, talk and act about climate change. The project explores the science and technology of climate change and energy supplies, but also investigates these issues in a political, social and economic context.

Visitors can follow the five fast games, explore the climate-changing world and go back in time to find key climatic moments in the Earth’s history. They can also uncover the secrets of ice cores and stalagmites, then head for the future to wonder at the latest ideas for a low-carbon life.

Atmosphere is a hands on gallery that reveals some of the key instruments used by today’s scientists and reports on some of the latest climate news.

TAKE A QUICK TOUR

The Science Museum's brand-new atmosphere gallery is a fresh and exciting way to make sense of the climate - the science of how it works, what it's doing now and what it might do next. Our centrepiece interactive provides the backbone to the gallery experience by placing visitors at the very heart of the climate change story. This multi-user experience takes visitors through a number of collaborative challenges all emphasising the complex inter-connectivity of the Earth’s delicate ecosystem. Ultimately every choice and decision made by visitors then impacts - in real time - on a dynamic, gallery-wide representation of the earth’s atmosphere and surface.
